Charity Auction Painting

This painting is for the Brownstones to Red Dirt Postcard Art Benefit Online Auction. Tons of wonderful artists are participating, so I recommend checking the site out and buying some art! Proceeds will go toward building a school for orphans in Freetown, Sierra Leone - and creating a library for youth in Bed-Stuy Brooklyn. The theme for the painted-on postcards is "pen pals" - be sure to check out all the cool paintings on the Brownstones to Red Dirt blog!

Shadow Puppeteer

Here are some ideas for a project about a shadow puppeteer. The puppeteer character I chose to go with is actually two people - conjoined twins. The wagon they use to travel in and perform their puppet shows from resembles a junk boat. When they're ready to set up for a show, they use the wagon's sails as a screen for their show. The top drawings show the characters I chose for the story, and the other drawings are exploratory ideas.

Wolf Pack

This is a sampling of drawings I came up with when I designed a wolf pack. The bottom image is of the alpha female, I wanted her to look pampered and queenly. In the top image is a blind wolf. He is surrounded by ravens who help him get around and find food. They like him so much, the try to make him one of them by weaving their feathers into his coat. In the second image, I included an Ethiopian wolf. The other wolves are grey wolves, and this Ethiopian wolf is a zoo escapee who joined their clan. He looks a little crazy, and he got that way from being behind bars too long. The other wolves you see are a mix of characters and plain old character exloration

Big Game Hunter's Lodge

For my first post - an idea I had for a big game hunter's lodge. I was thinking this guy built the main room of his lodge in an old temple. The roof of the place was failing, so he replaced it with part of a boat - symbolic for him because he's striving for his own kind of Noah's Ark (creepy). There are other knickknacks in the mix that I figure this guy would find symbolic - the statue of Diana the Huntress, the back wall with cave paintings on it...it's a tribute to his big game - and I'm not talking about scrabble or Terry Holt* people! Also, there's a twist on the fireplace - it's a fire sculpture that he can light from the bottom - the flames travel up in a spiral to the phoenix topper. Flame-boyant!

*Terry Holt is the Rams wide reciever and he has "big game" - I looked it up.
